Industrial Heritage of Poland and the ex-Soviet Union
"Architecture of industrial towns – its historical and contemporary problems" was the topic of a conference in Lodz, to which Dr. Hans-Peter Bärtschi was invited in 1980 during the Solidarnosc period. Later, several trips on industry and railways brought him to Poland. In the 1990ies, great opportunities arose to discover previously forbidden sites in former Soviet areas. Dr. Hans-Peter Bärtschi fostered extensive information exchange with the Russian delegate for the conservation of the industrial heritage, Evgenio Luganow, who was murdered on the 26th of December, 2004.
