The fifth congress on industrial archaeology in New England in 1984 gave an insight into the early industrialisation of North America. Dr. Hans-Peter Bärtschi consolidated his knowledge in history of industrialisation in Canada and the USA on further trips along the West Coast and to the Great Lakes. He addressed the issue of the dominating world power in speeches and publications and included a chapter in his book “Der endliche Fortschritt” (“Finite Progress”).
